Dyvian: (sitting on a stone throne slightly above Danyel) Such a shame, my dear. Your twin’s name has changed from Dayel to Tayel. This means he no longer has a place under the letter ‘D’. (leers at Danyel) I have you all to myself.
Tayel: (materializing at Danyel’s side) No, you don’t and you never will. Creatures such as us disregard the rules.
Danyel: Tayel! (grins and seizes his twin’s hand) I’m so glad you’re here! (frowns) Only shouldn’t you wait for ’T’?
Tayel: I’m selective about my ‘shouldn’ts’. (squeezes Danyel’s fingers) We started questing from AZ together. (scowls at Dyvian) I won’t leave you to face Him alone.
Dyvian: (affecting a wounded air) Really, children, why must you think the worst of me? Your older brother holds me in *very* high regard.
Danyel: (glowers at Dyvian) Exactly what is that supposed to mean?
Tayel: Don’t ask. Some answers are better left in the silence.
Danyel: (pulling his hand free) No, they’re not! (points a finger at Dyvian) What do you want with Leiwell?
Dyvian: All I have ever wanted is make him happy. Leiwell and everyone else. (raises an eyebrow at Danyel’s accusing finger) Can you claim the same thing, little one?
Tayel: Don’t answer him. Don’t play his games. (looks directly into Dyvian’s eyes) He loves to play lord and master, but in his heart, he’s still a spider’s minion.
Dyvian: Am I? (bringing his eyebrows together in a frown) What does that make you?
Danyel: Leiwell’s family. (drops his finger to cross his arms over his chest) Whatever burden he’s carrying, we won’t let him bear it alone. Especially one you’ve thrust upon him.
Dyvian: What if he’s chosen to carry that burden himself? (It’s his turn to point his long, thin finger at Danyel) One he’s shouldered for your sake?
Danyel: We won’t let him do that! (drops his arms to ball his hands into fists) Will we, Tayel?
Tayel: (choosing his words with some hesitation) If it’s Leiwell’s choice, it may be impossible to stop him. (frowns)
Dyvian: True. (nods with something almost like sympathy) He can be quite stubborn. Especially when it comes to you two.
Tayel: And you. (The air grows chilly) Just because Leiwell has chosen to carry his burden doesn’t mean we have to like it.
Danyel: (still glowering at Dyvian) Just because it’s Leiwell’s choice doesn’t mean you didn’t have a hand in creating that burden.
Dyvian: (with a soft, suggestive laugh) Well, I had a hand in creating him. Just as my opposite had a hand in creating you. The three of you went and formed a family of your own in spite of us.
Danyel: What was that?
Dyvian: (smiling with mocking sweetness) Oh, nothing. Nothing to concern yourselves with…yet.
Danyel, Tayel, and Dyvian are characters which appear in my collective 'Tales of the Navel/The Shadow Forest' series. They play a part in the first novel (currently under revision), 'Stealing Myself From Shadows'. They play an even bigger part in the second book, 'The Hand and the Eye of the Tower' (requiring even more revision) .
If you enjoyed their visit, be sure to stop by inspirationcauldron.wordpress.com! Damian and Duessa, characters from the same universe are there. The topic of Dyvian comes up in their discussion. ;)
